To commemorate the Excalibur Triathlon event which ran from 1988 to
2002, the original organiser of this event will be organising the Warrior Hill run, a great challenge to runners and triathletes
alike.
The challenge starts on Penmaen Green (OS 159. GR. 532888) or Three Cliffs Bay (to be confimed) the
objective of which is to run over the summit of Cefn Bryn (188 metres or 611 feet) and to reach the Bronze age megalithic
monument known as King Arthurs Stone. Once at this point, runners will circle the stone and return using the same course.
The initial stretch is steep and follows a cart track with loose stones, although there are grassy areas on either
side. The race follows an undulating track over Cefn Bryn, the backbone of Gower, with some fantastic views over the Bristol
Channel, East Wales and Carmarthen Bay. One can see seven old counties from the summit, including Somerset and Devon across
the Bristol Channel.
The final 1 K to King Arthurs stone is grass underfoot and involves the crossing of one minor
road, marshalled. The return run follows exactly the out run, but for those downhill runners a chance to excel..!!
Drink
stations will be available at the start/finish and at the turn around point at King Arthurs stone.
Marshals will be
in place at various points en-route, it is however, a basic out and back course. Car parking - ample car parking provision
will be provided by North Hill Farm camp site, which is located only a 100 metres or so from Penmaen Green and Churcht. Camping
facilities are also available at North Hill Farm.
